History and Purpose

The charter meeting of the quilt guild was held on September 16, 2000 at the Bernina and Sew Much More shop in Paris, Texas. Twenty five persons attended.

It was suggested that the name of the guild should encompass both local areas of Texas and Oklahoma. The name became the Red River Valley Quilt Guild.

The purpose of the guild is threefold:

  • To foster appreciation of quilts and the art of quilting among both quilters and the public.
  • Guild is to increase the knowledge of traditional and contemporary techniques of quilting, and to provide an encouraging environment in which quilters can practice and exchange ideas.
  • Guild is to educate the public as to the significance and history of quilting as an art form as well as an ongoing craft.
